India is widely known for its rich culture, heritage and social values. But, of late what we find in the youth of India is the concomitant activities with frustration and dissatisfaction raised out of fantasy life style and selfishness.

The face of the social values have been bent over the times with Globalization and the so called trends and fashions of the century. There is a great deprivation in being honest, sincere, just, sportsmanship, but the youth seem to adapt very quickly with lack of cooperation, profit oriented relationships, disobedience to parents, rebellious towards strict rules, loss of pride in patriotism, greediness to be rich and careless lifestyle.

If one looks at this off track values in youth, the causes may be many but few we could help them to be in line to make a better tomorrow.

The mass use of scientific technology, especially in the pandemic period, has brought down the social values among the youth. One of the reasons is a curtained relationship between teacher and student.

The much attractive social media too often highlights the trends and fashions of fantasy and not reality which make the youth to believe in such a world to be happy.

The rapid growth of nuclear family, the inappropriate grooming with a focus on satisfying single child approach are too some of the reasons the youth drift from the much appreciated social values.

The Institutions play a vital role in educating the younger generation on these social values or else there isn’t any need for structured system for group learning.

Our social values like greeting the guests, respecting elders, harmony, patriotism, welfare of the needy, serving the underprivileged are to be taught again keeping aside the fancy of scoring marks which only gives an idea of choosing social status, money and fame leaving aside the value of life.

Having set self values are more important and youth really looks upon leaders for this. To imbibe selfless values on the society could be brought in only by good and efficient leaders. How far today’s leaders set an example is a big question.

The youth of today are better educated, better knowledgeable. They too look forward a better tomorrow, but what went wrong to find fault with their deteriorated behaviour. Are we not responsible? The values inculcated discovers the better person in them thereby set better example in the society, that could bring in positive changes in the minds and actions of the fellow youth. They could be held responsible for their life only if we could prepare them to face the world with more humane approach and less focus on the all glamor of the by-products like being rich and wealthy to lead a healthy and successful life.

We can’t deny that it is primarily at home the learning begins. With the exemplary life of the parents the children learn and inherit the basic manners, attitudes and behaviour and education empowers them to be the ambassadors of social, moral and ethical values.
